1st INTERNATIONAL AIRBRUSH PAINTING COMPETITION

Regulation

• The LINEA ROSA association of Ravenna, the Aerography Portal www.aerografo.com and the DEPORTIVO LA CURNAZA Sports Club are organising the “1st International Airbrush Painting Competition”, aimed at promoting Association activities and better publicising social commitment and the work done. The proceeds from the event will go to the Association to fund projects under way.
• The Competition benefits from the logistic backing in Ravenna of the DEPORTIVO LA CURNAZA Sports Club and the technical and organisational backing of the portal www.aerografo.com as well as the participation of the following technical sponsors:
• AIRBRUSH STEP BY STEP Hamburg – aerography magazine, distributed throughout Europe;
• ARIART Ferrara – aerography shop and e-commerce site.
• CONRAD-BARTOLI Milan – company specialised in aerography since 1920;
• HARDER & STEENBECK Hamburg – leading world airbrush manufacturer;
• WERTHER International Reggio Emilia – leading world compressor manufacturer;

• The Competition will be promoted and publicised throughout Italy by means of illustrated folders, posters, flyers and on the web by newsletters and web pages dedicated to the event. Through the web, and in various languages (English, German, French and Spanish), the competition will also be promoted internationally, including with the collaboration of the magazine AIRBRUSH SBS which has undertaken to promote the event in the magazine issue published before registration closing.
• The competition is open to airbrush artists, both Italian and foreign, of every professional profile, both with individual participation, or school or recreational group participation (minimum 3 people).
• Each artist or group can take part in the competition with at most 3 works.
• Registration costs Euro 20.00 per person for: a) every artist OVER 18 taking part individually (whatever the number of entered works); b) every artist OVER 18 belonging to an artistic work group (whatever the number of entered works);
• Registration costs Euro 10.00 for: a) each participant UNDER 18 taking part individually (whatever the number of entered works); b) each member UNDER 18 of a school or recreational group (whatever the number of entered works).
• The registration fee must reach the LINEA ROSA Association by 15 September 2008 by: a) bank transfer on C/A IT13W0627013178CC0780009336 - SWIFT: CRRAIT2R at Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna Ag. 1, made out to LINEA ROSA; b) postal order made out to LINEA ROSA – Via Mazzini 57/a – 48100 Ravenna, specifying in both cases the grounds for payment: “Registration fee 1st Linea Rosa International Airbrush Painting Competition”
• Works may be entered in the competition that are created using mixed methods, in which the airbrush is one of the prevalent methods used with respect to the others; the works must be on any rigid support (canvas on frame, fabric-lined card, wood, rigid cardboard, etc.) and have a dimension between 35 cm x 50 cm. and 70 cm x 50 cm. The works will be split into two sections: INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS and GROUPS (at least 3 persons) of whatever age.
• The works must be original, under penalty of being excluded from online selection and/or subsequently from the exhibition.
• The theme of the competition is: “MIGRATING WOMEN, THE VALUE OF DIFFERENCES“.
• This theme requires the participants to represent women from different social, cultural and territorial backgrounds, valorising ethnic background, religion and race.
• The competition will begin on 15 MAY 2008 and will end on 15 SEPTEMBER. In this period the participants must send, to info@aerografo.com, the technical sponsor of the event, a digital photo measuring max 800x600 pixel of each work created for the competition, to allow this to be published in a special online gallery, open to everyone, and must complete their entries by sending the participation fee to LINEA ROSA.
• All the works will be published in the online gallery that reach the above e-mail address by 15 SEPTEMBER only if entries have been completed by that date by sending the participation fee.
• From 15 September to 15 October 2008, all online gallery visitors will be able to state their preference for at most 3 works for each of the two sections, through a specially designed form, which will not take into account any further preferences coming from the same PC.
• On 15 October 2008, at the end of popular voting, the 20 works from the ARTISTS section and the 20 works from the GROUPS section that have received the highest number of online preferences will be selected to organise an exhibition on the theme, opening in RAVENNA on 25 November 2008, the date of the World Day against Violence on Women. The presentation of the Exhibition and prize-giving will take place at PALAZZO RASPONI (Former Law Court) Via D’Azeglio, 2 in RAVENNA where the works will remain until 5 December 2008. From 7 December 2008 until 10 January 2009, the exhibition will be set up in the exhibition areas of S.MARIA DELLE CROCI, in Via Guaccimanni, 7.
• All the artists and groups presenting the 40 selected works must at this point personally deliver or send at their own expense by mail or by courier the panel/s with original illustration/s to LINEA ROSA – Via Mazzini 57/a – 48100 RAVENNA.
• On 18 and 19 October 2008, a jury of artists, teachers and local celebrities (see JURY) will draw up a classification of the 40 finalist works (20 for the ARTISTS section and 20 for the GROUPS section), and will select 6 for the ARTISTS section and 6 for the GROUPS section. These 12 works will produce a calendar of 12 pages to be printed and distributed throughout Italy, and which will become the official LINEA ROSA calendar for 2009.
• If, among the 40 works most voted online, there are some clearly not consistent with the theme, made using methods other than the airbrush or in which, in the case of mixed method, the airbrush is not prevalent, the jury shall exclude them from the exhibition and replace them with the works that immediately follow them in the online voting classification. The jury shall also have the undisputable right to include in the exhibition artists NOT TAKING PART IN THE COMPETITION, and to integrate the completion of the LINEA ROSA calendar with their works.
• The judges will analyse the competing works in general, from the design aspect to the technical-executive aspect.
Evaluation will focus on:
- the originality of the artistic idea
- consistency with the proposed theme;
- the quality of the airbrush method
- general technical quality.

• Among the 6 works of the ARTISTS section and the six works of the GROUPS section to become part of the Linea Rosa Calendar 2009, the jury will compile a classification to assign a first, second and third prize for each section.
• The jury will also assign a series of special prizes consisting of aerography material, at its own discretion for special merits, both to individual artists and to groups.
• The jury’s verdict will be final and indisputable.
• The opening of the exhibition, with the 40 most voted works, the awarding of the winning works and presentation of the LINEA ROSA Calendar 2009 will take place on 25 November 2008 at PALAZZO RASPONI (Former Law Court) – Via D’Azeglio 2 – Ravenna at 6 pm.

SCHOOL GROUPS section prizes:
1st PRIZE: 1000 Euro + Werther X1A compressor + 3 Paasche Airbrushes + miscellaneous materials
2nd PRIZE: 300 Euro + 2 Paasche Airbrushes + miscellaneous materials
3rd PRIZE: 200 Euro + 1 Paasche Airbrush + miscellaneous materials

SPECIAL prizes:
Aerography manuals, various Efbe, De Vilbiss Sprite. W2 and IMP airbrushes, Schoeller cards for airbrushes and miscellaneous aerography material to be awarded at the discretion of the jury on the basis of the evaluations made during general judgement.

CERTIFICATE AND SOUVENIR OF THE EVENT:
All 40 finalists taking part in the prize-giving ceremony will receive a certificate of participation from the jury chairperson and all its members, and a souvenir of the event.
The results of the competition and the photos of the winning works will be published in the first subsequent issue of the international magazine AIRBRUSH STEP BY STEP, sponsor of the competition.
The 40 finalist works and all the non-competing works shall remain the property of LINEA ROSA which, after the exhibition, reserves the right to exhibit them in public and private buildings at its own discretion, to organise permanent and travelling exhibitions and to auction them. More specifically, each participant expressly grants LINEA ROSA the title of the work/s made and the faculty to publish their reproductions in any way and form, including on electronic media and TV and expressly states that he/she has no claims to make at economic level, for any reason whatsoever against LINEA ROSA, to which the rights of title and reproduction are granted completely free of charge.
Only in the case of a competition work being auctioned shall the proceeds of the auction sale of the work be shared out – 25% for the author of the work and 75% for LINEA ROSA.

For all the other works taking part that are not among the 40 works accepted for the exhibition and voting of the jury, LINEA ROSA reserves the right to make publications and photographic reproductions to be used to promote event activities through newspapers, trade magazines, websites and TV, as well as for advertising future editions of the event, through any medium deemed adequate (printing material, publications, posters, etc.). In this case too, all the participants expressly grant LINEA ROSA the faculty to publish the reproductions of the works (the originals in this case will remain with the artists) in any way and form, including on electronic media and TV and expressly state they have no claims to make at economic level, for any reason whatsoever against LINEA ROSA, to which the rights of reproduction are granted completely free of charge.

The jury shall consist of local authorities, artists, teachers and representatives of the associations involved in the competition. Its final composition will be notified subsequently.


Participation in the competition represents acceptance of this regulation.
